Description

Quart Pot
This is a selection introduced in 1996 by Gary Dunlop who is one of the authors of one of our key reference books "Crocosmia and Chasmanthe". This arose as a self-sown seedling of Crocosmia pottsii x 'Grandiflora'. This shows much affinity with C. pottsii in its vigorous habit and narrow tubular flowers. The flowers carry some of the expected pink tones of it's parent coupled with orange and the yellowish throat completes the package. The flowers are held in an extremely long inflorescense on 3'-4' stems that have a tendency to be held somewhat horizontally. We have always imagined having a month of perfection with long wands of flowers arching over a stream or pond. This is not a stodgy homebody but is a happy peregrinator so give this room to move. Such vigor can be just the ticket for some situations and the long stems with their tubular flowers and resultant seedheads have interesting possibilities as cut flowers.
