A hybrid Pineapple Lily that was selected for cut flower production and how nice it must be to live where there are so many of these that you can use them for cut flowers. And South Africa would be a pretty cool place to live on the banks of the Tugela River. This is an easy bulb provided you mulch it in the winter. Flowers like elongated pineapples that are colored in pinkish mauve July to August and stand above foliage colored in the same tones which becomes even darker when grown in full sun.

This selection of Pineapple Lily rivals 'Sparkling Burgundy' for color and in some minds surpasses it. Rich maroon purple foliage and tall long-lasting Dr. Seuss flowers similarly colored and looking like an elongated fantastical pineapple. When you have too many, do try it as a cut flower as it has exceptional vase life. Not quite blooming size. Mulch for winter.

Giant Pineapple Lily. This is an immense jaw-dropping bulbous wonder from South Africa that while not blooming size yet is pretty close as these are nice big plants. Despite it's irrational tropical appearance it is hardy here - we just toss some mulch over it for the winter once it goes dormant. Big succulent green leaves to 30" and a 3'-4' tall stem with a cylinder of greenish flowers. Dr. Seuss would have been all over this. Plus it has a long vase life as a cut flower if you can bear to do it. We've heard of success in CT by planting much deeper than we ever would.

Big hummer with a big name from our friend Sean Hogan who selected this from a batch of seedlings for its crinkle-edged leaves and seemingly extra vigor in a species replete with vigorous excess. Easily the largest and longest foliage of any of the forms of Pineapple Lily we grow, this will make impressive clumps with tall greenish-white flowers to 3' or more in summer. Hardy here with mulch and makes an awesome cut flower if you happen to have a lot.
