Olearia capillaris
Price:
$18.00
In Stock
Gallon Pot
A plant new to us which we grew from cuttings purloined with permission from Lee Neff whose garden is a popular destination for the horticultural in-the-know. Sean Hogan introduced this from a collection at mid elevation from the South Island of New Zealand and he says that it is supposedly a hybrid between Olearia quinguevulnera and O. arborescens but further clarification is needed. This shrub took a hammering the last couple of harsh winters here in Zone 7 but if you have a mild garden and a sheltered spot and faith in global warming then it is so worth a shot. Pretty cool container plant which we are going to use it as since we are too cold. These are beautiful big plants.
Olearia ilicifolia

Quart Pot
This is a great evergreen textural shrub from the southern hemisphere which is great in milder gardens in our area. This took a beating (along with everything else) in the 09 winter but thought to siting in a sunny spot with good drainage, not too wet and not overly fertile soil will increase its hardiness. Clusters of small creamy daisies on this woody Aster family member is pure frosting on the cake of shrubby ornament.
Olearia virgata v. lineata 'Dartonii'

Quart Pot
Intriguing "Shrub Daisy" from the South Island in New Zealand. If you've hankered for a willow but lament your dry conditions, then weep no more. All the grace and texture of a small willow with the bonus of small white flowers and deer resistance. Contrast with dark or big foliage.
Olearia x haastii

$10.00

Quart Pot
The hardiest Olearia undamaged at 5F. Dapper evergreen with a pleasing tan indumentum under each leaf. The foliage is obscured in summer by a clusters of small white FRAGRANT daisies. Salt spray, and reputedly bastard deer resistant. Good drainage and takes dry when established.
Olearia x scillionensis

Quart Pot
Very interesting evergreen shrub from New Zealand which completely covers itself in small white daisies in spring. Sometimes you just want a plant to be smothered in bloom and this fills the bill. The interesting silver-gray leaves and twigs would contrast nicely with dark Phormiums like the little 'Atropurpureum Nanum' which would form a sweet little skirt at the base of this Olearia. Drought tolerant and hardy to the mid teens. Great against the south wall. Good drainage.
