From Hokkaido in northern Japan comes this very impressive Hemlock. Dark short green needles and simply presenting a beautiful aspect in all stages of growth. We especially delight in the light green new growth tipping the branchlets in spring in our shade garden. Likes it moist and shaded.

This is a choice dwarf version of the Japanese Hemlock. We love the typical tree species anyway but this little cutie has us wrapped around its little branchlet. Growing just 2"-4" per year, this will make a small mound in time and is well suited for the rock garden though not tolerant of dry.

Love the Mountain Hemlocks and always get a rush when we are hiking among them. It would be so cool to find a great variant like Elizabeth Frye did back in the 40's while tramping near Mt Rainier. This has perfect blue-gray foliage and short growth of 2+ inches per year and will eventually get 4' high and 6' wide. Glorious.
