Description

One of the best of the bigger Manzanitas for the garden, this is tolerant of more "average" garden conditions than many of its kin handling some summer water and heavier soil.  This is also one of the more rapid growers plus one of the hardiest handling temperature drops down to 5F especially if grown lean and drier.  This has nice clusters of white flowers on an open-crowned multi-trunked large shrub to 15'.  When it gets some height, then you can really appreciate the rich reddish-brown bark which makes so many in this genus such desirable plants.  This was discovered as a hybrid seedling in the garden of Dr. Cuthbert Hurd back in the early 70' and has proved itself in a wide variety of gardens over the decades.
