We have Ellen Hornig of the late, great Seneca Hills Nursery to thank for sharing this with us.  Some plants are just so good that one is duty bound to make sure they are kept in circulation and this is such a plant.  Likely of hybrid origin, this has large leaves wonderfully patterned as you can see, which start appearing with the onset of the fall rains and are up and glorious all winter and spring before withering away for the summer.  However, the spring pale sail-like flower spathes give way to erect stems holding knobby green seed heads which turn a brilliant orange in late summer and fall lasting for us through October and looking like some sort of Indian corn on a stick.  This is a very easy bulb which gets by with a little care and does well in the shade or woodland garden where it can tolerate some summer drying under under trees.
