Description
This has grown - quite literally - into one of our favorite plants. Much like an Eremurus or Foxtail Lily in effect as it gets long basal strappy leaves and a 4'-6' tall branched flower spikes in May and June with lots of pale peach tinted white flowers opening from reddish-striped buds.. The foliage withers away in summer making way for the slower arriving stars of summers end - the dahias and asters and salvias and such. Anytime we can get double duty out of a little plot, we feel pretty clever. We leave the dried seedheads standing tall and sculptural well into spring. Our plant in the garden has 11 flowering stems on it and every year it gets better. It is a bit like a peony that way - it takes awhile to get going but once there, it has the potential to become an heirloom plant as it is quite long lived. Full sun is best and hardy to Zone 5 at least.
