Clethra pringlei x alnifolia Clethra alnifolia x pringlei

between the Mexican evergreen C. pringlei and the east coast C. alnifolia.  The result is great evergreen foliage becoming semi-evergreen in colder parts with copious candles of palest pink fragrant flowers in the latter half of summer.  This was shared with us by Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens in Texas which was ravaged by hurricane Harvey.

Clethra kaipoensis MD 10-174 Clethra kaipoensis MD 10-174

A seldom-seen species of Sweet Pepperbush from our seed collection in the wild where it was leafless branches and a multiplicity of small finger-like panicles bedecked with small seed capsules.  This has proven itself in the garden here with a profusion of summer white flowers literally alive with pollinators.

Clethra petelotii FMWJ 13405 Clethra petelotii FMWJ 13405

Collected in northern Vietnam at Lao Cai, Y Ty at 2340 meters. This, like most Clethra, will make a nice deciduous shrub that is open in habit when young and like a small tree when mature. Scented mid to late summer white flowers that individually are larger than usual for Clethra. This has done well in a colder garden in Sequim and certainly good in Zone 8 if not colder. This has become a favorite here at the nursery.
