Yet another example of our compulsive need to acquire and assimilate broad representations of obscure genera that we find fascinating yet carry little or no hope of broad-based market appeal while fostering an ongoing pathology of justification endowing our long-term approach of Reineckea espousal which favors attraction rather than promotion in expectation that surely this will be the year that the noble gardening populace will have achieved the 4th stage of enlightenment and can embrace a neglected genus with complete intention, grace and humility.  And be damned happy they did because this is one of those surprisingly nice plants when in flower and always garners a nomination for Best Supporting Shade but never wins.  This is a collection by Wynn-Jones in 2000 from near Baoxing Sichuan and thought at the time to be an unusual form but falls well within the Reineckea carnea gradient which might be represented at one extreme by our collection in Yunnan in 1997 of a distinct thick-leaved large form to our smaller leafed collection from the summit of Jinfoshan in 2010 and similar to our recent collections in 2012 in Sichuan and Guizhou.  DNA work by Aaron Floden has placed all of these within the one species.  The basic premise here is that this is a must for the shade garden along with every other one you can lay your hands on!  Good to zone 6 and likely 5.
