Roscoea australis
Quite an uncommon species with all cultivated material coming from the Chin Mts in west-central Burma, thanks to Frank Kingdon-Ward for that collection. A sturdy plant with a stout stem and bold leaves and small mauve orchid-like flowers nestled in the apex of the leafy stem.

Roscoea purpurea 'Vannin' HWJK2406
Offering from division of this excellent selection by our friends at Crug Farm who collected this in Nepal while plant-hunting with Dan Hinkley and Jamaica Kincaid. The species is typically very robust and stout and this is no exception with green leaves and a red pseudostem. The white flowers with a light lavender wash are a nice departure from the norm.

Roscoea humeana 'Primo'
Another fantastic humeana clone of ours with very large flowers of which we are finally offering a few. This comes at no small personal diminishment of something deep and pure that must be the precursor to our intrinsic plant hoarding proclivities of which monetary compensation assuages but little. Similar but different than 'Boffo'.
In Stock
Roscoea purpurea f. rubra syn. 'Red Gurkha'
Fantastic Roscoea only discovered in the 1980's in Nepal and still scarce as hen's teeth in the nursery trade and always commanding very high prices. Why is this so good? It represents a color break in Roscoea with large red flowers which resemble some exotic orchid except this is easier to grow! It's a show-off plant for sure.

Roscoea purpurea 'Brown Peacock'
The genus was named for William Roscoe, who founded the Liverpool Botanic Garden way back in the 1800's and is in the same family as culinary ginger, Zingiberaceae. We have lost our minds over this genus, collecting and hybridizing with abandon. This is a superb selection out of the UK with dark stems and leaves with pale lavender-tinged flowers.

Roscoea purpurea
We always think of this as an easy and affordable substitute for orchids as the flowers are reminiscent. In the ginger family, this is easy Asian tuberous plant can be grown in part sun to light shade. It will get a foot or more high and will have a succession of showy purple-pink flowers and clump quickly.

Roscoea humeana 'Boffo'
An excellent clone of ours we have ssslloooowwwlllyyy increased so that we finally have a few to share. This form as well as our 'Primo' seem to differ from the various Scottish selections of humenana we grow by having MUCH larger flowers. Totally a must-have and if we weren't obliged to make payroll, we would keep all of them.

Roscoea tibetica f. albo-roseus
This is a little charmer from a Diana Reeck collection in Yunnan which is quite short to just a few 6" tall but with very lovely pinkish and white flowers. When we see this bloom it takes us back to those same woods where saw this same species a year after Diana collected its seed in 1996, This is a sturdy little fellow increasing each year by offsets and reseeding a bit.

Roscoea auriculata - Good Form
We're wild about Roscoeas which we think gives you the floral abandon and exotic appeal of an orchid with a fraction of the cost and difficulty. One of the hardy ginger clan from the Indian Himalaya. These like a woodsy soil that drains yet stays moist. Easy and rewarding.
(Out of Stock)
Roscoea cautleyoides
One of our favorite Roscoeas which distinguishes itself by a haughty erectness (only achieved a great cost at expensive finishing schools) in apparent conflict with the "Do Me Now!" exotic yellow flowers.

Roscoea purpurea f. alba NAPE 239
We are quite pleased with ourselves for collecting seed of this desireable and scarce variant in the eastern Sino-Himalaya. This hardy Ginger relative has large flowers with white dorsal petals and a broad white labellum liberally washed in violet. Very plant-nerd worthy as well as being just a beautiful addition to the garden.

Roscoea tibetica
A cute little cousin to the hardy Gingers, this Zingiberaceae member has tuberous roots from which low wide short strap leaves appear and in the center are nested small pink orchid-like flowers. This one has its origin in a Roy Lancaster collection in China.

Roscoea cautleyoides 'Jeffrey Thomas'
A selected form from England notable for pale cream flowers which are lighter than typical for the species. All the allure of a hardy orchid without the expense. Pretty much trouble-free.

Roscoea x beesiana
A true Ginger relative, this is a vigorous and hardy hybrid between R. auriculata and R. cautleyoides and is a wonderful fusing of all that is good in both parents unlike me who got the short round gene. Stout tanned foliage with large variably purple streaked flowers in shades of cream.

Roscoea purpurea 'Gigantea'
We received this plant as the cultivar 'Gigantea' which doesn't appear to be an accepted name hence our double quotes. Disclaimer aside, it is a big mother, stout of stem, leaf and flower and very grudging with seed and divisions. Large late summer light purple flowers. Muy Gigante!

Roscoea scillifolia f. atropurpurea
We quite love the Roscoea clan and we have a special affection for this one which challenges for top honors as having the smallest flowers in the genus. Why would I want the small flowered one you ask? Intensely colored purple black Bing Cherry reduction small orchid-like flowers is why.

Roscoea cangshanensis BSWJ7848
This is a very newly described species from Yunnan and collected by those folks at Crug Farm in Wales. Allow room as it is stoloniferous. If you want a tidy clump, we have a lots of other options but if you have space to fill and want something no one else has then feel free to do as we did and pick one up! Bright purplish smaller flowers on this rare species.

Roscoea 'Family Jewels' hybrids
Vigorous plants with foliage variously shaded in coppery hues and flowers that defy easy description. The flowers in mid to late summer bewitch with prism jewel tones of ruby or amethyst or rarely salmon which shimmer with an entrancing depth of color. This is a seedling group and not clonal so there is some small variation but pretty darned consistent.

Roscoea purpurea 'Royal Purple Group'
Robin White's hybrid. Stout of stem, bold of leaf and arresting of flower, all is colored a rich purple in June and July later mellowing somewhat but still freaking awesome. Unavailable in the US. Except here.

Roscoea tibetica f. alba
A distinct form of this dwarf species collected near the former Tibetan town of Kangding in Sichuan. With a huge Chinese influx, Kangding has grown to well over 20X it's orignial size in the the last 20 years. This petite species is often found in close-cropped alpine grasslands and this pure white form with its small orchid-like flowers is delectable.

Roscoea x beesiana 'Alba'
This lacks the variable purple streaking in the flowers commonly associated with typical x beesiana. Held well above the leaves, exotic flowers are a clear pale yellow the color of moonlight caressing the languid limbs of your beloved as you lament the bright moon dimming the Perseid meteor shower.

Roscoea humeana - Early Form
We received this extraordinary selection from and equally extraordinary plantsman, David Mason of the vaunted former Hedgerows Nursery. Few members of the genus approach this for impact which is only heightened by flowering before other large-flowered forms. The emerging spring growth is enclosed in soft salmon sheaths and the hot damn lavender-pink flowers stand proud before the leaves develop.

Roscoea forrestii f. forrestii
A species not often encountered for sale, the 2019 RHS Plant Finder lists but two sources in the UK and they won't have many. Neither do we but we want someone else besides us here in the colonies to enjoy this plus this will give that collector's itch a good scratching. A stout, smaller species with yellow flowers that is related to R. humeana.
(Out of Stock)
Roscoea x beesiana 'Monique'
White flowers with purple streaking on the long labellum - the lower, largest two petals of the flower. Roscoea auriculata and R. cautleyoides are the presumed parents of x beesiana and this group makes for excellent garden plants. Taller stems to 16" or a bit more, this can have a ghostly presence - almost eerie, depending on light, mood and current news cycle.

Roscoea 'Far Reaches Red Group'
Robust seed strain from our breeding work with each possessing its own unique varying degrees of dark foliage and flowers from red to red-pink to red-purple. Normally, we select one or two to keep - which we did - and throw the rest out - which we didn't - as these are all worthy of pride of place in the garden.

Roscoea 'Harvington Raw Silk' AGM
Another gorgeous introduction from Hugh Nunn whose nursery is in the village of Harvington. This has obvious Roscoea humeana in its parentage which contributes large flowers well-displayed on a stout plant. A light cream is the flower color and ours were initially but these same plants have become more yellow.

Roscoea humeana 'Snowy Owl'
This compact gem with large, lovely pure white flowers is one of our most favorite plants and we have A LOT of plants. Unlike the solitary and territorial avian Snowy Owls, these flowers bloom in clusters, showing off en masse while happily mingling in the garden. Named by Nigel Rowland of Long Acre Plants, who is someone we have not met but know has exquisite taste.

Roscoea cautleyoides 'Kew Beauty'
Excellent selection of this early flowering Chinese species. This is more robust than the typical cautleyoides which is already an awesome species. Puts on a show with large flowers of a soft primrose yellow that are held well above the leaves. A good increaser, this will in a few short years, be a focal point.
